What will happen if there is NO financial bailout?

Icon Written by admin on September 30, 2008 – 6:56 pm

I am aware there will be very difficult economic times. I am not looking for the “common sense” answer here. I am looking for someone who is knowledgeable about economics and is able to foresee the state of the economy a year from now if there is no bailout and things are allowed [...]

With respect to the Wall Street bailout, why can’t there be a provision to hold senior execs criminally liable?

Icon Written by admin on September 30, 2008 – 6:56 pm

It seems to me that they leaders of these big firms have lied to people in order to pad their profiles. That’s a crime as far as I know. Shouldn’t these folks be thrown in jail. It doesn’t seem enough to me to have provisions in the bailout bill that keep them [...]

Are bad Republican economic policies the reason why we are about to fund the biggest bailout in US history?

Icon Written by admin on September 30, 2008 – 6:56 pm

Federal Reserve and Treasury officials say is the worst financial crisis they have ever seen. The government is about to buy mortgages at from banks and other institutions, thereby relieving them of their debt and transferring it to the taxpayers.
Republicans have been preaching deregulation, free market and laissez-faire and have gotten their way under [...]

Do you agree that the Secretary of the Treasury should have no oversight by Congress “spending” this bailout?

Icon Written by admin on September 30, 2008 – 6:56 pm

The wording of the Act is:
“Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency.”
It is also not as advertised to be “only” 700 Billion tax-dollars! The language states “not more than 700 [...]

Are there better solutions than the Paulson bailout ?

http://www.efinancialnews.com/content/2451959019
for example an equity bailout put forward by George Soros

If the gov’t is going to bail out these companies, the company should go out of business immediately, and the consumer debt that is owed to them should be written off.
that way any consumer who owes a “bailed out” company money would not owe it anymore [...]

What exactly is this 700 billion dollar bailout?

Icon Written by admin on September 27, 2008 – 3:54 pm

can you explain it in simple terms?
The $700/Billion is going to buy Mortgage Backed Securities held by Banks and other Institutions. Currently those assets aren’t trading and their value is determined to be worthless. As such, the Banks have to write down their asset values. That in effect liquidates their assets and makes the institution [...]

Are you mad about the 1 trillion dollar bailout of Wall Street? If you are, then…?

Icon Written by admin on September 27, 2008 – 3:54 pm

…are you equally mad that the democrats want to add another 1 trillion dollars of new taxes over the next two years if Obama is elected?
You should be, because that is as big of a hit to our economy as the Wall Street bailout.
Very mad!!!

How does the AIG bailout help us?

Icon Written by admin on September 27, 2008 – 3:54 pm

I know it was necessary, but I dont like the whole situation. We are gonna keep giving money to the rich and risky investors until there is nothing left. In your opinion is the bailout plan good or bad. And why do you think this? What would have happened if the feds didn’t do it??
I [...]

Anybody else believe 700 billion will be the final price tag for the bailout?

Icon Written by admin on September 27, 2008 – 3:54 pm

Like the Iraq war, which they first estimated would be 20 billion, then 50, then 70, then 200 billion – then they just gave up making estimates.
The bailout will cost at least 3 to 4 times that much I guarantee you.
And the McCain big business tax reduction (which looks great to beer companies by the [...]

Is Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) giving up his seat to blindly back Bush’s Paulson’s bailout Wall Street CEO’s?

Icon Written by admin on September 27, 2008 – 3:54 pm

How corrupt is Henry Paulson to reward Wall Street and CEO/Executive pay at “rescued” financial firms and banks who knowingly put their companies at high-risk because they chose short-term profit over stability when taking on high-risk/bad loans?
Bush’s bailout of the super rich is actually going to ensure Paulson payouts/job security once he leaves office?
The average [...]
